MUñeca viajera
Muñeca Viajera (Traveling Doll) is an ephemeral land art installation, commissioned in 2013 by Fist Art Foundation. It was crocheted with wool from Otavalo, Ecuador. She traveled in a suitcase to the golf course of Ritz Carlton hotel at Dorado Beach in Puerto Rico. When the doll arrived, it was filled with soil and flower seeds such as Moon Flower, Morning Glory and Zinnias to become a living garden for people and insects.
The journey of this piece started with the conception of the idea, followed by the knitting of the doll in Quito and other cities in South America. In an attempt to acknowledge the influence of indigenous communities who make colorful crafts as a way of expressing their identity. As well as all of the women who make garments as a household activity, these are all expressions that I wanted to reclaim in Traveling Doll. The doll was packed into a colorful suitcase representing a womb that gave birth to a doll in Puerto Rico. She was filled with Puerto Rican soil and seeds to become a flowering garden. Her textile skin changed through the growth of the flowers transforming her into part of the landscape. Representing travelers who come from different places to grow in a new land experiencing a process of exchange and acculturation to finally belong in a new place.

Muñeca Viajera es una instalación efímera de land art, comisionada en el 2012 por Fist Art Foundation. Fue tejida en crochet con lana de Otavalo, Ecuador. Viajó en una maleta hasta los campos de golf del hotel Ritz Carlton en Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico. Cuando la muñeca llegó, la llenamos de tierra y semillas de flores como Moon Flower, Morning Glory y Zinnias para convertirse en una jardín viviente para personas e insectos.
El viaje de esta pieza comenzó con la concepción de la idea, seguida por el tejido de la muñeca en Quito y otras ciudades de Sudamérica. En estos viajes tuve muchas influencias de las artesanías de las comunidades indígenas quienes crean sus artesanías como expresión de su identidad. A la vez, todas las mujeres que crean tejidos para sus hogares son una referencia para mí. Intento rescatar estas tradiciones a través de este gran tejido de mi muñeca. La muñeca fue empacada dentro de una maleta colorida que representa un vientre que después dió a luz a la Muñeca Viajera al llegar a su nueva tierra. La llenamos de tierra de Puerto Rico y de semillas de flores que la transformaron en parte del paisaje, representado a los viajeros que viven procesos de intercambios y aculturación para finalmente ser parte de un nuevo lugar.
